It is the body’s natural ability to neutralize and remove toxins from the body.
What is the Art of Self Care program?
While you can’t change your genes or heredity, there are many things you CAN do to improve your health. This program teaches you how to become a change-agent in your own good health by addressing and improving the lifestyle-driven factors you can change.
The Art of Self Care is based on the science of self care, and that is based on current medical research. I use education, experience and practice to help teach these skills and to bring these new good habits home and into your everyday routine.
The program is….
Three special classes during the weeklong detox that will include movement, meditation, pranayama, yoga kriyas (the natural detoxification exercises) and yoga nidra, the sleep of yogis, plus lots of information about safe detox and juicing.
If my body is naturally equipped to detox, why do I need a special program?
Many factors can affect the body’s ability to cope with toxins : fatigue, poor diet, excess or substance abuse, trauma, parasites, hereditary factors, poison, epidemics and environmental factors.
When passing states of fatigue or un-wellness become repetitive or even constant, imbalance becomes our status quo and we slide towards illness on the wellness/illness continuum. When this occurs, and if there is no intervening factor to restore the body’s cellular waste management capabilities, the body becomes toxic. Detox programs relieve the overload, and restore the body’s natural ability to manage waste.
How do I know I need detox?
There are many symptoms of toxicity including headaches, lack of concentration, lack of sex drive, constipation, bloating, gas, acne and skin problems, respiratory problems, allergies, joint and muscle aches, tiredness, low energy, fatigue, moodiness, depression, and PMS.
What are the benefits of detox?
As the body moves on the health spectrum from a state of toxicity to a state of health and cleanliness, the body’s qi, or life force returns. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, (TCM) the dynamic of the life forces-yang and yin-that stimulate and sedate the body are brought into balance. This will be experienced as a state of energy, revitalization, and a ‘can do’ feeling of stamina and endurance. The body’s immune system improves so the body can fight off illness more effectively. All organ systems will demonstrate this improved health with better levels of functioning. Emotionally and mentally, stability and calm, focus and concentration replace mood swings, irritability, sleeplessness and depression.
I’ve never done yoga. Can I still come?
Absolutely! There are no age restrictions and no previous experience is required, just a willingness to make a positive change in your life. Our yoga practice will be paced to where we are in the detox process. Sometimes this requires more active, physical practice, sometimes more restorative work. You’ll be able to find your way with instruction, props, modifications and hands-on corrections.
